Advice and thoughts to Employers:
  • Almost 70% of the governess in Australia come out of Victoria or NSW.  It seems that people from these states are itching to roam Australia.

  • The amount of In Home Care and Governess positions in Australia has doubled in the last 2 years.  Before In Home Care people couldn't afford anyone to help with the children.

  • More resumes than ever before have been advertise on GovAust website this year.

  • Low unemployment does effect our industry just the same as the rest of the country.

  • IN HOME CARE places are available in most states.  Please check if you are eligible for this funding.  More information see the Parents Page

Options for advertise other than Governess Australia:

Any person who finds a good website or newspaper to advertise in please let me know.

I am happy for anyone who wants to put a link back to their job on Governess Australia.  Particularly useful on the Jobsearch website

If you have left over resumes after advertising please either pass them onto other parents on your school or advise them to look on the Governess Australia site.

  • One of the local mothers from NSW recommend advertising in any of the newspapers along the NSW coast and she also recommended advertising in Melbourne.

  • If you want to advertise in newspapers then Rural Press Limited papers are an option.  I would think that The Land and QLD Country Life have the best employment sections and are the ones I search in when looking for employment in the early days of governessing.

  • I have also been told that any of the Uni noticeboards are a great idea.

  • Another option might be to try one of the 3 major employment websites.... SEEK, MY CAREER or CAREERONE.  They do cost money.

Job Registers & Rural Services

 NT Home Tutor Register

The Home Tutor Register (HTR) began in 1989-90, as a small service to our ICPA Members within the Northern Territory. It's aim is to assist these parents with the streamline of advertising costs and time, by short listing the applicants, and to also provide a quick starting point for those seeking an employee urgently.   This register is controlled and funded by the Northern Territory ICPA Council. It is run voluntarily, and is supported by the NT Government and donations. Currently we are unable to find a register co-ordinator and so have sourced Anna Brown Recruitment to find governesses for our members.

Please go to the link on our webpage for more about Anna Brown Recruitment or find her own website at: http://annabrownrecruitment.com/

Remote Family Care Service  NEEDS CARERS

For More Information : rfcs@bigpond.com   or   (07) 3870 9820

Other Information Available on the Parents Page

Remote Family Care Service (RFCS) requires a number of suitably trained or experienced childcare staff to ensure quality care is provided to all families.  Travel to and from a placement is arranged by the Coordinator.  Most carer's work 4 to 6 weeks on and have 1 to 2 weeks off.  Remote Family Care Service operates in the Emerald, Charleville, Longreach, Mount Isa and North Qld areas with some travel into the Territory.

Remote Family Care Service (RFCS) provides families with a carer for up to three weeks in any calendar year for childcare.  Care does not encompass household responsibilities such as being a domestic, stationhand and the like.  The family are responsible for the safe pick up and return of the carer as well as providing an acceptable standard of board and accommodation for the duration of the placement.  All carers are supplied with appropriate early childhood resources contained in an extensive range of kit boxes developed by the Coordination Unit, along with suitable craft materials.  This allows the carers to provide a range of age and stage appropriate activities at each placement.  We mainly cater for children between 0-6 years however are also needed in the school room with older children.

Carers must be aged over 18, hold a current drivers license, a Blue Care and a current First Aid Certificate.

Experience in rural and remote areas is preferred.

The position is not only extremely rewarding but everyday is likely to offer a new challenge or exciting experience!

We have 250 families in different areas so this will differ from place to place however additional information is supplied to the carer's before they head out to a placement.

The carers role is primarily for childcare and does not encompass household responsibilities however it is acknowledged that the carer may undertake some household duties associated with meeting the needs of children in their care in addition to those associated with their lodging.

We realise that each family accessing the service has differing needs to be met and in turn each carer has a differing approach such as varying skills and specialities.

The following is a brief outline of tasks that would be expected of each and every carer:

  • Children's meal preparation

  • Age and stage appropriate activities for children

  • Bathing and dressing children

  • Supervising children's activities

  • Keeping children at home for the day when Mum goes to town shopping, out mustering, or working in the sheds etc

  • Entertaining younger children whilst school work is caught up on

“I thought that I would let you know that there is an employment agency in WA that is beginning to place home tutors in regional WA.  They have a website that list all positions available, and a site of those people looking for work.  We have just employed a wonderful woman through this site/agency.  Their placement fees are very reasonable and they are very thorough in their checking up on applicants.  They specialise in education appointments.”  Quoted from a WA parent
