Dubbo School of Distance Education Preschool

My Family

We live on a 13 000 hectare sheep and wheat property.  Our two boys, 3 and 4 yrs old, are happy, active kids who love to play.  Our eldest is inquisitive, has a great sense of humour and just loves being in the school room.  Our youngest is a determined, gentle soul who communicates well.   We enjoy routines, which makes things easier all round.  We make attention to diet and health a priority for both boys.

My husband’s parents live on the property also. We go to Nyngan weekly for sport and preschool.  The farm is geographically isolated for day to day matters but 3 hours to Dubbo, population 40,000.

Wage

   on application, free board

In Home Care Position

yes

Schoolroom situation

Our recently renovated schoolroom is a pleasant place to be – it is light and airy and has Air Con and heating.  We have kinder size desks and chairs, art supplies, cd player.. It overlooks the purpose-built kids’ garden with pool fence and gates, fort and cubby, sandpit, swings and easy access to toilet. The school room is adjacent to the laundry, which is handy for art work etc.  There will be satellite internet in the schoolroom from 2009.

Accommodation

The governess’ accommodation is a 6 x 3 m transportable building situated 10 metres from the kids’ garden.  It has Air Con, heating, Fridge, microwave, sink and is well furnished.  You will not be required to share the accommodation.  Share bathroom and laundry. We have satellite internet in the study and times for access to that can be negotiated.  Next G phones work here and weekly family phone call is encouraged.

Bedding is supplied but you are welcome to bring your own.  We have mains power with a back-up generator.

Job Description

This is a nanny/governess position.  At present, Mum will be sharing the teaching duties but with only one on preschool, these are not onerous as the work does not take long.

When Mum is working in the paddock or off farm, you will need to take responsibility for care of the boys and maintain their routine.  Your role will include implementing appropriate creative activities to stimulate the children and performing household tasks directly related to the provision of care for the children e.g. tidying schoolroom and play room, preparing and cleaning up after lunch for children.  Your role will include attending school camps with mum and children in Dubbo, generally each term.

We are happy to be flexible with hours but generally it will be a 10 hour day, 5 days a week.  Things are busier when we are shearing or doing other sheep work and during sowing or harvesting which may mean you are called on for some part of weekends then.  This is not frequent.

Expectations and Special Requirements

We are looking for someone who will ideally become a respected friend to the children who will look up to you.  You need to be organised, motivated, flexible and friendly and sincerely interested in the children’s well being – you need to enjoy children’s play and be able to participate in that.  You should be able to communicate well, have sound literacy skills and use common sense.  Non-smoker.  Having your own car is desirable; 42 km dirt road.

Other requirements:

Be a minimum of 18 yrs of age.

You will need a Working With Children Check (Blue Card) or be willing to get it upon commencement of employment.

You will need a current first aid qualification.

Complete a prohibited persons check.
