Mundrabilla is 100Km west of Eucla and 800Km East of
Kalgoorlie. Mundrabilla is approximately half way between Perth and
Adelaide about 1400km each way. |

Kalgoorlie School of the Air |
|

We have two beaut kids. A boy who is 9 and starting year 4 in
2009 and a girl who is 7 and starting year 2 on School of the Air in
2009. I am currently pregnant so in January of next year we will have a
newborn as well.
My husband and I own and run historic Mundrabilla Station which is a
million acre sheep and cattle station. The homestead is situated at the
base of the Hampton Escarpment which is only 3km off Eyre Highway. The
station runs to the coast and the homestead is only 30km from the beach,
so we have best of both worlds. We are 800km from our main town
Kalgoorlie but we have a great sealed highway for easy access. Although
we live in a remote area we are not really isolated with regular
tourists and a fantastic community and social life. We have lovely
neighbors at the friendly roadhouse close by and have a great community,
existing of stations, fishing communities and roadhouses. We have
regular get togethers on the station with the locals and their families.
We also participate in the local gymkhana/rodeo in April at Rawlinna. My
husband and I employ staff at busy times and our current govie has been
with us for 3 years. The kids are well behaved, typical country kids.
They love being outdoors riding their horses and bikes etc.
We have one mail services a week with a store truck weekly.

The schoolroom is an air conditioned building about 20meters
from the house. It is quite well set up with the usual desks, shelves
and learning materials. Stationary and art/craft materials are kept well
stocked. There is a sink and running water in the schoolroom for hand
washing and paintbrushes etc. The school room has a computer with
internet connection for " air sessions" and email. Within reason the
govie can use the internet in the school room for personal use outside
of school hours..
|
|
|
Our current govie lives in a room just off from the house
and utilises our bathroom etc. We also have a furnished self contained
cottage with TV, microwave fridge etc. We have plenty of accommodation
so would hope to provide something that everyone could be happy with.
All the accommodation is nonsmoking. The govie would need to keep her
quarters reasonably tidy and clean. I would require a govie to bring
their own bedding and any personal
belongings to make their space more their own. We have 24 hour wind and
solar power with automatic genset backup. The homestead is also on fresh
desalinated water. |

The school day, with lunch and smoko breaks, is from
7.30 till about 2.30pm or until the days work is finished . Some time
after school will be needed for preparation of the next days lessons.
This includes organising the day's work, preparing the lessons and
obtaining materials required for the lessons or air sessions. The govie
would need to be responsible for teaching & supervising the kids with
their normal school day. It involves the lesson sets from School of the
Air, their air sessions with their teacher, any additional activities
that will benefit their learning and some sports activities. You would
be responsible for writing feedback reports for the teachers or myself,
to monitor the child's progress, as well as packing up and posting the
sets. The govie would be responsible for making sure property that
belongs to the school, like library resources, is returned in the same
condition it arrived in. I would expect the govie to be organised and
tidy and the school room to be managed like a normal class. The
children's schooling is the main focus though I would expect the govie
to give me a hand with small things like helping to occasionally clean,
sweep, cook, dishes & watering gardens etc. With tourists and the
Station I get pretty tied up so I would expect someone to jump in and
give a hand when a hand is needed. Some times after school supervision
would be required for the kids if I am out in the paddock.

Expectations and Special Requirements |

Teaching background or experience with
School of the Air would be preferable. Completed successfully a
reasonable to high level of schooling.
Experience with children is a definite, either looking after or
tutoring. We require someone that really loves and enjoys kids. The
ability to teach well while making the learning experience fun for my
kids is very important. The govie would be responsible for making the
schoolroom a positive and nurturing learning environment. We are pretty
easy going people and enjoy a laugh so we would expect someone with a
similar personality.
Trustworthiness and honesty are very important to me so someone who is
fairly mature and levelheaded would be an advantage.
The govie will be treated like a member of the family but must be aware
of personal space and boundaries.
When we have busy periods ie shearing, mustering we quite often all go
as a family so a govie that is happy to fit in and be a bit flexible is
an advantage. I feel I am quite approachable, so if there are any
problems or queries the govie might have I would do my best to help
solve the problem.
Good organisational skills
Sober clean habits.
Some computer skills.
You will need a Working With Children Check (Blue Card) or be willing to
get it upon commencement of employment.
Your own car would be an advantage for you to be able to get away to the
beach or roadhouses on the weekends but is optional.
You will need a Senior First Aid Certificate or willing to get one on
commencement of employment. |

Our current governess Brooke has been with us for 3
year and she is happy to give a reference and answer any questions you
may have. She has loved her time here but has decided to take a
different career path. Other employee references are also available.
